Best Life Advice from Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones has tons of awesome quotes and advice. I cherry picked the best advice and most of it comes from the most evil characters, but oh well.

1.
“You've been running all your life. Terrible things happened to your family and you weep. You sit alone in a darkened room mourning their fates. You've been a bystander to tragedy from the day they executed your father. Stop being a bystander. Do you hear me. Stop running. There's no justice in the world, not unless we make it. You loved your family..avenge them.”
Petyr Baelish

This is the best piece of advice in all of Game of Thrones. Petyr Baelish and Sansa Stark are riding to Winterfell so he can marry her off to Ramsay Snow/Bolton and naturally she refuses. Ramsay and his father Roose Bolton fatally betrayed her mother and brother. So, in the context it seems like he is just manipulating her. However, it's still great life advice. Don’t be a bystander in your own life. Being naive and believing that people are fair or just will probably result in people taking advantage of you. Don’t let that happen. Fight for the the things you want.

2.

“You know what I learnt losing that duel? I learnt that I'll never win. Not that way. That's their game, their rules. I'm not going to fight them: I'm going to fuck them. That's what I know, that's what I am, and only by admitting what we are can we get what we want.”
Petyr Baelish

Another Awesome Littlefinger Quote. This is what Littlefinger says to Ros and another prostitute in his employ after he tells them his story. How he was in love with Catelyn Tully, but lost the duel to win her hand against Brandon Stark. He then realized that he was playing a game he couldn’t win. Although I don’t encourage anyone to a manipulate and take advantage of everyone that they meet like Littlefinger does, I still think it’s great advice. It’s important to understand the game that other people are playing. If that game doesn’t suit you, then don’t play it. Create your own game, your own rules, and your own options.

3.“You're the mother of dragons. Show your strength”

Daario Naharis

Some people think Daario is just trying to manipulate Daenerys into killing the Wise Masters of Meereen and that may be true, but it’s still great advice. Know what your strengths are and use them to your advantage. For example, if you are great at thinking on your feet then use it to your advantage in Consulting or in building a new business.

4.
“Women in Our Position have to make the most of our situation”
Margaery Tyrell

This is great advice for anyone. Margaery gives Sansa this advice when she is consigned to the fate of marrying Tyrion when she thought she was going to marry Loras Tyrell, but it's great advice for anyone. Make the most of your situation, no matter what that situation is. The happiest person I’ve ever met was a homeless man that I met in Miami. Even though he was homeless, he was working 3 jobs doing whatever he could to get by. He would sweep floors for shop owners, clean, put up signs for people, etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s no longer homeless and he’s actually thriving now.

5.
“Chaos is a ladder”
Petyr Baelish

Another badass quote from Petyr Baelish. This is the truest thing I've ever heard. When things are chaotic, i.e when a company goes through a restructuring for example. A lot of people do lose their jobs at first, but the people left behind are often promoted much more quickly than they would have been otherwise. People that see a pattern or trend coming are often able to take advantage of it and succeed. For example, there were a lot of people that saw the great depression coming and bought stocks dirt cheap when the depression hit and then sold their stocks afterward to make huge profits.

6.
“When You Play the Game of Thrones, You Win or You Die”
Cersei Lannister

This is the one of the most iconic scenes in Game of Thrones. Cersei Lannister basically explains the Game of Thrones to Ned Stark after he tells her to run because he knows about her twincest. She tells him if you really want to win you don’t run. You fight or you die. This is amazing advice to basically never do anything half heartedly. When you want something, go hard or go home.

Rapunzel Rewritten

As soon as Rapunzel heard the witch's feet hit the ground, she rolled her hair up over the balcony.  She scavenged around wildly for her hidden rope.  She had hidden pieces of it under gilded pillows, and under a broken floorboard.  Rapunzel began to piece together her rope, with slippery fingers.  Shaking slightly, she tied the rope to the ledge of the balcony and threw it down. As the rope hit the ground, she let out a sigh of relief..  Trying not to look down the ledge, Rapunzel slowly began to climb down.  Rapunzel could feel goosebumps appearing down her spine from the wind chill.  She said a silent prayer as she landed her feet on the ground for the first time in ten years.

As Rapunzel looked around at the field, she felt as if she were just waking from a dream.  Everything seemed too beautiful, too perfect to be real.  She bent over to smell every flower, touch every weed, and eventually rolled onto the grass in ecstasy.  This was Amazing! It was as if she were a sailor that had been stuck at sea for years and had finally landed on an island. Rapunzel completely forgot herself in the feeling.  Then, she thought she heard a noise she couldn't quite make out. Rapunzel pushed past the trees, mesmerized by the sound.  What was that?
In her panic, Rapunzel was brought back to earth.

Rapunzel walked through the woods as in a daze.
What Now? Rapunzel thought.  She hadn't really believed she would make it this far. She had escaped the castle, but she still had to rescue Sven and had no idea how to get to Northampton Castle. Perfect! She rolled her eyes at herself. Why do I always end up in these situations? She thought to herself.

One thing's for sure: I'm going to give Rema what she deserves when I find her, thought Rapunzel. This thought gave Rapunzel strength, and she smiled through her sweat as she trudged into the forest with her newfound resolve.

After four hours of walking, Rapunzel came upon a stream. She was so thirsty she gulped the water down as if it would evaporate within the hour if she didn't drink it. "Huh!" sighed Rapunzel after getting her fill. The water had quenched her dry, raspy throat perfectly.  Once her thirst was gone, she realized how tired and hot she was. Rapunzel hid herself underneath a low-hanging bush and decided to camp for the night.

10 Steps To Financial Recovery After Job Loss

Losing your job can be brutal. Here are 10 steps to get you back on track:

1.Cut Your Expenses
If you’ve lost your job, the best form of damage control is to cut your expenses as much as possible. Can you get rid of cable? Can you take on a roommate? Do you have the opportunity to live somewhere rent-free? It sucks, but when “When the going gets tough, the tough get going”-Joseph P. Kennedy.

2. Apply for Jobs
This one sounds obvious, but it had to be said. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box when looking for new work or ask for help. There are a lot of people that would be willing to help you if they knew you needed it. Do you have a sister that’s the resume queen? Or, is your cousin a master networker? Your family and friends are a great resource.

3. Find Side Income
With the onset of the internet this has become easier than ever. There are a lot of side gigs that can be done until you find something more substantial. A lot of people drive with Uber or Lyft. You can also walk your neighbor’s dogs, babysit, mow lawns.

4. Take Care of Yourself
The job hunt can take quite a toll on you physically and mentally. Make sure you still get 8 hours of sleep, eat healthy food, and exercise regularly so that you have the energy to give it your best.

5. Intern or Volunteer
Interning or Volunteering is a great idea while you’re unemployed. It will get you out of your funk at least temporarily. You get to meet new people, add to your network, learn new skills, and it can lead to a job. I volunteered with a political party for a week and they decided to hire me.

6. Take Any Job
Don’t scoff at jobs that get sent your way. It’s much better to earn a measly income than none at all. Some jobs can lead to something better. Temp jobs can lead to full-time jobs, etc.

7. Sign Up With a Temp Agency or Recruiter
Recruiters are awesome for many reasons. They will usually help you improve your resume, for free I might add. Also, they will help place you in a position without any cost to you. So I say it’s a Win Win!

8. Learn an In-Demand Skill
Sign up for a nursing program or learn to code. There are many social programs that allow unemployed people to learn IT skills for free. Now is the time to take advantage of those.
9.Consider Outlandish or Out of the box options
If you have the flexibility, moving for better job prospects might be a good idea. If you’re adventurous, English teachers in Korea or China are always in high demand. If you want to stay closer to home,

10. Start a Business

If all else fails, then start a business. It’s the perfect time to do so because you have the time and nothing to lose. Tons of business are started with very little cash. Some examples include craft businesses, where you create something and sell it on etsy or another platform. There are tons of other examples. Pick a skill that you can do better than the majority of people and either offer to do that skill or teach others how to do it. For example, you could do bookkeeping or taxes for people, you could create websites for individuals or businesses, or you could sell artisanal ketchup. Just do a google search for business ideas if you’re stumped!

Take yourself on a date! Be a tourist in your own city! Go to the restaurants, bars, and events you would go to if you had friends and meet people with similar interests. Love cooking? Take a cooking class. Love Game of Thrones? Go to a GoT viewing party.
